I have more blocks to add on the bottom. I was planning on having ONE non-railfence block in the next row. Either another checkerboard:
Or this other block:
Whichever one I don't use on the front can go on the back. Or not.
Maybe I need one more row to make this long enough to cover an adult person. Do I have enough 1.5 inch strips to make more? [Can always cut 3" strips in half.]
And on the subject of the back..... I'm thinking that this is going to be pretty HEAVY with all those seams, so I'm considering a fleece back and no batting.
What do you think on all these heavy decisions? Go ahead and weigh in!

A flannel backing might be nice too. I've made a few baby quilts minus batting with flannel backs. Decisions...decisions....

ReplyDeleteI like the look with the second checkerboard added; it seems to balance the piece (in a way).
Nothing wrong with a heavy quilt; it would be warmer that way (but maybe the person it's for wouldn't want it really warm.)

I like the second checkerboard on the front, too. I also like the idea of a flannel back. I would worry that the fleece would be too stretchy and maybe bunch and/or shift when quilted.

Everyone warned me about the weight of it too, but doesn't seam all that bad to me (baddum bump). ooh, maybe it's an excuse to use Minkee - I love how that stuff feels... your blocks are awesome. I like it better with the second checkerboard too..
