I decided AGAINST the Square-in-a-Square plan for the Stars.
Some time in the night I remembered that I was concerned about the Stars not showing up as well as the Rings. Therefore, I have chosen to outline the Stars, one quarter inch inside the edges. I hope with the quilted square in the middle as well, this will be a contrast to the two circles on the Ring block, making the Stars more noticable.
Could work. . . .
Anyway, as usual once the decision is made, I can't see why it took me so long!
Of the three pieces the quilt is divided into, I have the Stars quilted on one--the smallest. Tonight we are having the annual Vestry party at our house, so no more work until after church tomorrow.

your circles look awesome!
wow Sara that looks great..I sewed mine all together as a top and then realized I could'nt quilt it -so I have un picked it into rows and am quilting all my accent colour shapes..i think it will look ok when all is done ...
It's looking fabulous Sara! I think outlining the stars that way is really going to help them show up. You've really nailed the rings and stars! 10 pts!
Oh yes! The large circle has done wonders. I can't quite visualize the square on the star points, but I know you've got a good thing going, so I'll wait expectantly to see it. (I'm also gathering ideas for when I get my borders on next week and start loading CC on the frame.) I can hardly wait to get to the quilting phase.
Good job, Sara!
Great idea to outline stitch the stars...and the circle quilting is awesome too! I have enjoyed reading about your quilting decisions and seeing the photos as you went along...very inspiring!
Somehow, I got my above comment on the wrong post. I see that I made that comment at 4am, so that explains it, I think. Anyway, I want to say that I have just looked at the photo on this post where you have outlined the stars...yes! they do pop with that outlining. They carry their right of place along with the round quilting in the other block. Very nice!
