Extra Extra Fancy all done

At Bee meeting my "orphan"  and confetti block quilt was returned with the quilting completed.  It is now bound and ready to use.

The title of the quilt came from a piece of fabric intended for rice bags.  It's in the upper right corner area, near where Charlie's head would be under it.

Above is the rest of the right edge.  And below is the left edge.

And here are two tiny stars which will be near my arm.  Along with a piece of watermelon in case I get hungry in bed.

At the bottom a dog and cat to keep our feet warm.

Catherine wisely decided to quilt the overall pattern from the back side, so she was not disturbed by all these diverse images.

Ain't it great?

I'm pretty sure we're keeping this one for ourselves!

"Extra Extra Fancy"

Still adding more to the Strip Quilt of Orphans.  I added the confetti blocks on the top of THIS half of the Strip Quilt.  And I want you to notice the words "extra extra fancy" on a part of a rice bag fabric.  I think it may be a good title for this quilt.

And here is the other half with its row of confetti blocks.  To the right is my next row.  With four blocks like this I almost had the right width for the quilt, so I just added a little spacer bar between each to make it up to 48".  Not sure yet where this on is going to fit, probably in the center, so it will be sure to show, not be tucked under the mattress.

I found some time for knitting over the weekend while riding in the car, and while conversations were in progress.  I "turned the heel" in both socks and am now working on the heel gusset decreases.  Hope to get them finished for a gift.

Growing Strip Quilt

Back to the Strip Quilt of Orphan blocks.  I had two strips of left-overs from a charity quilt at the beginning of the year, rather poor quality batiks in pink and green.  By piecing them together I got the right length, twice.

I added one to each section of strips I had started.
I think these various rows will look better with a spacer in between too, so I added a red strip on the right where my next idea was going..

I had found a basket of waste HSTs from a project of two years ago, so sewed them together into three rows that were a little over 48" long.

The fabric was not really the best for HSTs this small [finish 1.25"], but they were already made!  And just another example of scraps I can't seem to throw away.  "Some day" I will use them for something.  Today was "some day".

So here is the next step in the Strip Quilt of Orphans.
Next a couple of rows of Confetti blocks.  I'll check to see if I have 16 of those, or if I have to finish off a few more.

I chose 48" for the width of this top because I think that will cover the width of the top of a twin bed.  When I have made the top about 60" long, I will add borders to bring it up to 60" x 72".

Lost camera

I don't like to post without pictures.....but I can't find my camera.
No doubt it is in a "safe" place. Some where it will show up--but no photos for a couple ofr days.

But I HAVE been sewing.
1) Using up 6.5" scrap squares to make 9-patches and then some Hourglass blocks.
2) taking 9 blue and white Orphan blocks and log-cabinning them up to 12.5 inch size with blue and green logs. I think this will be a "mostly white" quilt. In fact maybe all of the rest of it will be white.
3) experimenting with my Spoolspinners mystery blocks in an odd size to make them more Wonky.

Orphan medley

This is my fourth day to have a bad sore throat and feel very tired. I stayed home from church and from the GRWC rehearsal because I wanted to rest, and I didn't want to pass the germs around. Rain/snow today, which results in FOG.

But I have been working a little each day on the Orphan Medley in my last post. Today I bound it, including a label.

My last piece of work was to put a "fancy" quilting bit in the one while muslin patch.

Now it is out of sight. Mingling with some family laundry.
And I am preparing for a colonoscopy tomorrow. So only liquids to "eat".

Orphan medley in process

Here's my distraction of the day. I am so IRKED with the finishing of the back seams on my Carolina Crossroads that I keep finding other things to do "for just a few minutes". Then I don't return to the Carolina Crossroads!

This will be a baby or toddler quilt for someone at Pine Ridge. I had quite a few orphans blocks in my 4.5" drawer, in fact they were filling it to the brim. So I grabbed them and some already cut 4.5 inch strips yesterday, and got the middle of this together. To me it looked rather blah, so I went with bright borders. Now it is pinned, so I have another chance to practice my machine quilting.

Doll quilt factory

I could enjoy these three new doll quilts from my seat in the dining room during dinner tonight.

This is #4, made from an orphan block. I once had about 20 of these blocks made into a twin quilt with a lovely interlocking design. Obviously I had a left over block, and this is what I did to get rid of it.

This is #5. I had a pile of pre-made 4.5" blocks and many of them were blue, so they got put together. Then it seemed to be too rectangular, so I put only two borders on it. This "counts" as a UFO finish to me because the blocks were all made long ago. Must tell Finn, that's #3.

The back is an orange and black African print. You can see a tiny bit of it in the binding.

And here is #6. I had five of these blocks left from another quilt, and some leftover green single bias binding. Still one more block to use up!

This one has a wild pink and white batik for the backing.

I've been working on these for several days, and there is one more in the wash machine.

So as part of my weekly shopping trip today I went to Toys R Us and bought five more dolls. No pic since I stored them in the trunk of the car so I'll be sure to have them WITH me for the Guild meeting next week.
